Celui-là on ne l'attendait pas. Que le coup du requin puisse encore fonctionner est étonnant tant le sujet sur cet animal est éculé depuis le "Jaws" et de ses 3 suites de Steven Spielberg en 1975. Mieux, le sujet était l'objet de films comico-z avec "sharknado". C'est dire que nous pouvions être dubitatifs sur le potentiel de "The Meg" film américano-chinois de 130 millions de dollars avec Jason Statham et Li Bingbing. Le film conte les exploits d'un marine qui pour sauver une équipe scientifique doit affronter le Mégalodon squale préhistorique de 20 mètres de long. Tout du superbe nanar donc et gros flop prévu sauf que pas du tout, mais alors pas du tout. Même si son score Chinois de 50 millions de dollars pour son week-end pouvait sembler logique, son score américain est une grosse surprise avec 45 millions au compteur, au moins le double des prévisions. Un score canon de 141 millions de dollars propulse le film a une surprenante première place mondiale. Le film distribué par Warner Bros possède toutes les chances de rapporter au moins dans les 300 millions au final. Pour Jason Statham c'est une bonne pioche. Non pas qu'il n'ait pas participé a quelques-uns des plus gros blockbusters mondiaux (Fast and Furious) mais c'est la première fois qu'il rapporte autant en tant que tête d'affiche et ce n'est pas faire injure aux "transporteurs" et autres "méchanic". Un bon point pour l' acteur qui pour le coup va séchement dépasser son collègue et concurrent Dwayne Johnson qui a semi-floppé avec "Skyscraper".
Le cinema asiatique est de plus en plus à la fête. Les deux films suivants du podium sont deux films chinois avec "ipartment" le film pour adolescents chinois adapté d'une série télé populaire et "The island". Il est dommage d' apprendre que le distributeur de "ipartment" ait acheté des centaines de millier de places pour gonfler le chiffre du film le premier jour.
"Mission Impossible fallout" est éjecté du podium mais son cumul reste satisfaisant dans l'attente que le film soit diffusé sur le territoire Chinois (le 31 août) énorme marché pour le film.
